Going Out Lesson Plan - Stefani Ekky

Hi!

I have a new job now as an English lecturer and teach a conversation class. Here, I want to share my lesson plan and the sources of the materials for you guys to practice in your class. You can add as many creative activities as you can, but you can also use mine.

The topic for today is: Going Out.

Going out here means that you have to teach your students how to order in the restaurant, or maybe how to become a good seller.

Lesson Plan Going Out

Objectives: Students can apply the positive and negative words in life. They can be wise in using their interpretation.

Time
Parts
Description
15’
Elicitation
·      Do an introduction first since it is the first time for you to get in touch with the students.
·       Write five things on the blackboard. It can be a picture of chocolate, what you hate or what you like, anything that indicates who you are. Ask students to make one sentence of each thing that describes the identity of the teacher. For example, teacher writes number 2. The sentence will be like: You are the second child in the family. At that time, the teacher can say yes or no and then talk about herself.
·    Ask students to do the same by writing their five things on board. Teacher and classmates will guess who they are. If you have more than 2 students, you can ask them draw on a paper and then they can find partners to guess at each other's things.
15’
Presentation
·         Explain that today’s topic is “Going Out”.
·       Going Out does not talk about asking your friends out, but how you order meal in a restaurant or maybe go shopping.
·         Teach students what to say in a certain circumstance.
20’
Production
·         Students will do the fill in gaps worksheet.
·         Discuss the result together.
·        Ask students to play role. The one will be the waiter, the other will be the costumer.
35’
Discussion
·         Ask students to produce their own long dialogue.
·         Ask their friends to check.
·         Then read together the result in front of the class.
·       You can make this long dialogue as a homework if the time is not enough.
5’
Review
·         Ask students to learn about Future.
·     Ask them to tell “What are you going to be in the future?” “How will you reach your dream?” “Why do you choose to be that in the future?”
·        Students can also provide some pictures or supporting documents to explain about the future.

You can take the source of materials here:

or simply type on youtube: Restaurant Practice Video.

For me, with these activities, 90 minutes are enough to make them understand. Moreover if your students are beginner, you will explain a lot about the usage of those phrases in a real situation and how to pronounce certain word.

In the middle of the presentation, you can also insert a value of appreciating differences of many cultures in the world. For example, in Indonesia, we do not use our last name to book a table. We usually use our complete name.

Okay! I hope you are able to manage your class. Happy trying.

Cheers,
Stefani Ekky.
